  • Three-floor villa: 8 hours from SAR 274, or two maids from SAR 296.

  • Two visits every week: from SAR 885 a month.

Why does an Az-Zahra home need more time?

Because many Az-Zahra homes are villas on two or three floors linked by an internal staircase, and the stairs and banister alone take time, with the maid carrying her tools up and down between floors. Four hours is rarely enough for a whole villa, so we suggest six or eight hours, or two maids sharing the floors.

Flats in Az-Zahra also tend to be spacious, and some are in modern compounds built on the sites of older buildings. Each type of home has its own approach, explained below with a table of time per floor, starting prices and the jobs most requested in the district, such as dressing-room organising and curtain care. An hourly maid, or part-time maid, comes only for the hours you book and does not live in.

Where is Az-Zahra in Jeddah?

Az-Zahra is a residential district in north Jeddah, bordering As-Salamah, An-Nahda, Al-Khalidiyah and Ash-Shati, with King Abdulaziz Road running alongside it and connecting it to the rest of the city. It is close to the waterfront and the Corniche, Red Sea Mall and Al-Shati Market, and has well-known hospitals, schools and mosques.

The district is known for being quiet, with a regular street plan and wide roads, which makes it easy for the maid to arrive and for the car to stop outside most of the time. Homes mix detached villas and flats, and older buildings have increasingly been redeveloped into modern compounds with flats sold for ownership, so new families keep moving in and need move-in cleaning.

How many hours does each floor of an Az-Zahra villa need?

The ground floor with its majlis and kitchen needs 3 to 4 hours, the bedroom floor about 3 hours, and an annex or indoor roof room one to two hours. Add up what applies to your home to find the length:

Estimated time per part of the villa for one maid, in a home cleaned regularly:

Part of the homeApproximate timeMain items
Ground floor3 to 4 hoursMajlis, living room, dining room, kitchen and guest bathroom
Internal staircaseHalf an hour to an hourSteps swept and mopped, banister wiped
Upper floorAbout 3 hoursBedrooms, bathrooms and dressing room
Annex or indoor roof room1 to 2 hoursLaundry room, storeroom or guest room
Laundry and ironingRuns alongside other workMachine, hanging, ironing and folding

So a two-floor villa with stairs adds up to roughly 7 hours, which makes an 8-hour visit, or two maids for four hours, the right fit. If it is the first visit after a long gap, you may need two visits in a row to reach everything; after that one visit is enough.

The internal staircase and banister

Stairs are among the most neglected parts of villa cleaning, even though guests see them first. The maid sweeps the steps from top to bottom so dust does not fall onto what is already clean, then mops them, wipes the wooden banister along its length with a barely damp cloth, and cleans the corners at the base of each step where dust gathers.

In villas that book two maids, we suggest one takes the banister and the wall beside it while the other sweeps the steps, then they share the floors. Very high staircase windows are cleaned only as far as the maid can safely reach while standing on the stairs; she never puts a ladder on the steps.

Safety on the stairs

Steps are always mopped from top to bottom, and the family is told while they are wet so nobody uses the stairs before they dry, especially children and older relatives.

Dressing-room and wardrobe organising by the hour

Organising a dressing room or set of wardrobes takes two to three hours per room: the maid empties and wipes the shelves and puts everything back the way you choose. It is a frequent request in Az-Zahra, especially when seasons change or before Ramadan and Eid.

Hanging dresses and abayas and lining up shoes in an Az-Zahra dressing room
  • Abayas and dresses: hung on matching hangers and arranged by colour or use.
  • Thobes and shemaghs: ironed and hung, or folded on their own shelves.
  • Shoes and bags: dusted and lined up on the bottom shelf.
  • Last season’s clothes: folded into boxes or bags on the top shelf.
  • Things no longer used: set aside by the maid; whether to donate or keep is your decision.

Before wardrobe organising

Tell the maid how you like things: by colour, by family member or by occasion, and have storage boxes ready if you want seasonal clothes separated. That way the result is right the first time.

Hourly curtain care in Az-Zahra

The maid cleans curtains while they hang: she vacuums dust from the folds, runs a handheld steamer over them if you have one at home to remove creases and freshen them, and wipes the track and frame. Taking down and washing heavy curtains needs a specialist service.

Light sheer curtains can be taken down and machine-washed if the fabric allows and they can be rehung without a tall ladder; the maid then hangs them slightly damp so they fall straight. Allow an hour for each large room with both heavy and sheer curtains, and mention it when you book.

Bathrooms on every floor: how to fit them into one visit

A two- or three-floor villa usually has four or more bathrooms, and cleaning them all in one visit needs a plan so an hour is not lost going up and down. The maid starts upstairs, sprays cleaner in every bathroom, then returns to the first to scrub and rinse, moves on to that floor’s bedrooms, and only goes down once the floor is finished. The guest bathroom downstairs is left until last so it is spotless when she leaves. A small caddy of bathroom supplies on each floor saves carrying tools between levels, and each bathroom has its own cloth that never goes near the kitchen.

Before a trip and after you return: closing and reopening the villa

Many Az-Zahra families travel in the holidays and close the villa for weeks. Before leaving, a 4-hour visit empties and wipes the fridge, washes dishes and bedding, covers sofas and furniture, and closes windows and curtains. After you return, a 6 or 8-hour visit brings the villa back: covers shaken out, weeks of dust wiped away, bathrooms and kitchen cleaned, and travel clothes washed and ironed.

Moving into a new flat in Az-Zahra’s compounds

A new flat in one of Az-Zahra’s modern compounds needs a move-in clean to remove construction dust and finishing marks from tiles, glass and cupboards. For a 3 or 4-bedroom flat we suggest eight hours with one maid (from SAR 274), or two maids for four hours (from SAR 296).

The maid wipes cupboards inside before anything goes in, cleans bathrooms and kitchen, glass and frames from the inside, doors and light switches, and mops the floors more than once because construction dust comes back after the first pass. Once furniture arrives, you can book a second visit to arrange belongings, the kitchen and wardrobes. Hardened cement or paint residue needs a specialist post-construction cleaning company.

What an hourly maid does not do

A visit covers indoor housework: cleaning and tidying, sweeping and mopping, kitchen and dishes, bathrooms, laundry, ironing and folding, glass from inside, majlis seating and rugs with a vacuum, hospitality set-up and serving at occasions, preparing the home for Ramadan and Eid, and cleaning before moving in or after moving out. Outside that:

  • She does not cook full family meals.
  • She is not left alone in charge of children or elderly relatives.
  • She does not climb to high places or clean exterior facades.
  • She does not move heavy furniture or take down heavy curtains.

It matters that a lady of the house is present during the visit, especially when wardrobes are being organised, since she decides where everything goes.

How can you tell a maid is legally employed?

A legally employed maid comes through a company that knows who she is, holds a valid iqama and works for the entity that brought her to the Kingdom. That is what we provide on every visit: maids with valid iqamas, trained, in a modest uniform, and driven to and from your home by us.

A maid offered to you through acquaintances or a message may have left her employer, or be working for others in breach of the rules. The Domestic Workers Regulation from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development bars employers from putting their worker to work for others, with a fine of no more than SAR 20,000 or a recruitment ban of no more than 3 years. Jawazat, for its part, can jail anyone who employs or houses a residency or labour violator for up to 6 months and fine them up to SAR 100,000 per violator.
