Al-Basateen: big family homes in north Jeddah
Al-Basateen is a residential district in north Jeddah dominated by spacious family villas, some very large with up to ten bedrooms, alongside apartment buildings with flats to rent or own. Prince Sultan Street runs through it, lined with many villas, and we cover it on the same north Jeddah rounds as Al-Muhammadiyah, Al-Murjan, An-Naeem and Obhur South.
The housing shapes what families need. One villa may house parents, married sons and their children, or grandparents living with their son’s family. That means more bathrooms and bedrooms, laundry almost every day, an upstairs family lounge in use all day, and a majlis receiving guests every week. One weekly visit is rarely enough for a home that size.
So this page is built around the weekly schedule: how to split a large villa across several visits so every floor gets its turn, how to choose between one maid for longer or two maids, and what the maid focuses on in the bathrooms, sofas and lounges that extended-family homes use most.
Hourly maid prices in Al-Basateen, Jeddah
Hourly maid prices in Al-Basateen start from SAR 138 for a four-hour visit and from SAR 1,325 for a 12-visit monthly plan. The table runs from a single visit up to the plan, since Al-Basateen families usually start with one visit and then subscribe:
| Visit type | Details | From (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| Four-hour visit | One maid, for a family flat or half a villa | 138 |
| Six-hour visit | One maid, for a whole floor plus the laundry room | 204 |
| Two maids together, four hours | The villa split between two maids at once | 296 |
| Weekly visit plan | 4 visits a month, four hours each | 468 |
| Three-visits-a-week plan | 12 visits a month, four hours each | 1,325 |
The final amount depends on hours, maids, home size and the slot. Any evening, Friday or holiday charge is written into the confirmation message before the visit. An extra hour starts from SAR 52, and for any other arrangement, such as two six-hour visits a week, ask about its price on WhatsApp.
Why a plan works better for a big house
With a plan the house is cleaned before work piles up, so the maid does in four hours what might take eight if two weeks passed between visits.
A suggested weekly schedule for a large Al-Basateen villa
The best approach for an extended-family villa is three visits a week, each devoted to part of the house. Here is a sample schedule for the 12-visit plan; change the days to suit your family:
| Day | Part of the house | Main jobs |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Ground floor | Majlis, living room, kitchen and guest WC, plus washing up |
| Tuesday | Upper floor | Bedrooms, bathrooms, bed linen and the family lounge |
| Thursday | Laundry and guest prep | Washing, ironing and folding, and the majlis ready for the weekend |
For a flat in one of Al-Basateen’s apartment buildings, a weekly four-hour visit covering all rooms, the kitchen and bathrooms with light laundry is usually enough. A large family in a four-bedroom flat may prefer the 8-visit plan, two visits a week, from SAR 885.
Keep the same maid on your schedule
Ask for the same maid on every visit, subject to availability. Knowing the house saves a lot of time in large villas: she knows where the linen and products live and what needs special care.

Bathrooms need the most attention in Al-Basateen villas, because there are many of them and each is shared by several people. On every visit the maid cleans basins, baths, toilets and mirrors, wipes tiles and grout, then sanitises high-touch surfaces: door handles, light switches, flush buttons and taps. She wears gloves kept for bathrooms only, never used in the kitchen.

The order matters: mirror and upper surfaces first, then the basin, the bath or shower, the toilet, and finally the floor, working from the far side towards the door, so dirty water never runs back over clean areas. In homes with small children or elderly relatives, we suggest their bathrooms are cleaned on every visit even when they look clean.
Never mix products
Mixing bleach with acidic or ammonia-based cleaners releases dangerous fumes. If the products are yours, keep them in their original labelled bottles; the maid uses each one on its own.
The upstairs lounge, sofas and cushions: the family’s everyday corner
The upstairs lounge in an Al-Basateen villa is where the family gathers every evening, so dust and crumbs build up quickly on the sofa and under the cushions. The maid plumps and rearranges the cushions, vacuums the sofa seats and gaps with a handheld vacuum, wipes the tables, and damp-mops the parquet with a lightly wrung mop, never a wet one, to protect the wood.

Steam or machine shampooing of sofas and carpets is a specialist service and not part of an hourly visit, but regular vacuuming and plumping every visit extend the sofa’s life and delay the need for a deep clean. If there is a fresh stain, tell the maid what it is so she can treat it carefully with a damp cloth.
Cushions
Plumped and put back neatly.
Sofa seats
Vacuumed with the handheld, corners and gaps included.
Parquet
Lightly damp-mopped along the boards.
Tables and shelves
Dusted and cleared of little fingerprints.
The kitchen in an extended-family home
An Al-Basateen villa kitchen runs almost all day: breakfast before school, lunch for several households, coffee for afternoon guests, a late supper. Give it at least an hour of every visit: dishes and pots washed and put away, worktops and cupboard fronts cleared of grease, hob exterior, sink and tap cleaned, fridge and microwave wiped outside, floor swept and mopped last. If the villa has a second outdoor kitchen for heavy cooking, mention it at booking, as grease there takes longer. Many villas also have more than one gate, some on busy Prince Sultan Street, so tell us which gate to use and pin the location from inside the villa.
How many hours do Al-Basateen villas and flats need?
A family flat in Al-Basateen usually needs four hours, a full villa floor six hours, and a whole large villa either two maids or more than one visit a week. The first visit to any home may need an hour or two more than usual to clear long-standing build-up; later visits are shorter.
If your family receives guests every week, set aside part of the last visit before the weekend for the majlis, guest bathroom and serving ware. For a big occasion at home, such as a family gathering or a milka, two maids before the event and a visit afterwards to clean up work best.
An hourly maid’s jobs in Al-Basateen, and the limits
The maid takes care of housework, meaning cleaning, tidying and laundry; she leaves cooking proper meals to the family, and she is never the only carer for children or older relatives. That matters in extended-family homes in particular, where she may be asked to sit with a grandparent or the children; that is care work for specialists, not part of a cleaning visit.
- Sweeping and mopping on every floor.
- Kitchen, worktops and dishes.
- Bathrooms, with handles and switches sanitised.
- Washing, ironing and folding.
- Inside window glass.
- Majlis, rugs and sofas vacuumed.
- Hospitality set-up and serving, then cleaning after the occasion.
- Ramadan and Eid preparation, and move-in or move-out cleaning.
The visit excludes hazardous work such as exterior facades or heights, and moving heavy furniture. The maid brings basic cleaning tools, and we agree the products with you at booking. Having a female family member around during the visit is our preference, which is usually easy in extended-family homes.
Ramadan and Eid in Al-Basateen’s extended-family homes
In Ramadan Al-Basateen villas host iftar night after night for a large part of the family, and that is where the three-visits-a-week plan proves its worth: one visit for the kitchen and serving ware after consecutive iftars, one for the majlis and lounges, and one for laundry and bathrooms. A week before Ramadan you can book a long two-maid visit to clean the kitchen and shelves and prepare the large serving dishes.
Demand rises across north Jeddah before Eid, so book before the last ten nights. Shift times change in Ramadan; we confirm the available time at booking, and hours are counted from the maid’s arrival.
Legally employed maids: peace of mind for your home and family
We send Al-Basateen homes maids who are properly registered with current iqamas, trained in domestic work and dressed in a modest uniform. Choosing legal workers is more than a preference: under the Domestic Workers Regulation published in Umm Al-Qura, a sponsor who allows their domestic worker to work for others can face a fine capped at SAR 20,000 or a recruitment freeze of up to three years.
The General Directorate of Passports confirms that whoever employs, shelters or transports a residency and labour violator, domestic workers included, may be jailed for up to six months and fined up to SAR 100,000 per violator. Our maids are Kenyan, Ugandan and Bangladeshi, with availability confirmed at booking.
