Why Al-Murjan homes are different: new villas near the Corniche
Al-Murjan homes need a particular kind of care because most are recently built villas close to the sea. The district lies in north Jeddah near the Corniche road, next to Al-Muhammadiyah, and it is one of the city’s busiest residential property markets, with land values among the highest in Jeddah. Many residents have moved in recently, or are fitting out villas they have just bought or rented.
A new villa is not like a home that has been lived in for years. Fine construction dust keeps settling back on surfaces after every wipe, there is adhesive and stickers on glass and sanitary ware, and empty cupboards wait to be organised. A few months in, a second set of needs appears: a whole family’s laundry, abayas and school clothes to iron, a kitchen in constant use. So we have laid this page out by the stages of a home’s life in Al-Murjan, from handover day to the regular weekly visit.
Being near the sea adds a third factor, humidity, which marks mirrors, sliding door glass and bathroom grout. We deal with it on every visit in simple steps, explained further down.
The first visit to a new Al-Murjan villa: the pre-move-in clean
A pre-move-in clean usually needs eight hours with one maid, or two maids for four, because construction dust spreads into every room. If you can, book it before the furniture arrives; empty floors and cupboards are quicker and easier to clean. If the furniture is already in, the maid cleans around it and under whatever lifts easily, without moving heavy pieces.
This table shows how we split the stages of a new home into visits, and when to move from the long visit to the usual one:
| Stage of the home | What the maid does | Suggested booking |
|---|---|---|
| Handover day, before furniture | Construction dust swept, floors and reachable walls wiped, bathrooms and kitchen cleaned, stickers removed | Eight hours or two maids |
| After the furniture arrives | Furniture and shelves wiped, kitchen and pantry set up, clothes hung | Six hours |
| First week of living there | New linen and towels washed and folded, general clean | Four or five hours |
| Once settled | Weekly or more frequent cleaning, tidying and ironing | A monthly plan sized to the family |
About building residue
Hardened cement or paint splashes on floors sometimes need specialist crews and equipment. The maid removes dust, dirt and light stickers, and does not use abrasive tools or strong acids that could damage new marble or porcelain.
What does an hourly maid in Al-Murjan cost?
An hourly maid in Al-Murjan costs from SAR 138 for four hours, from SAR 274 for eight hours and from SAR 296 for two maids together. These are the options homes in the district choose most:
| Visit type | Details | From (SAR) |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly four-hour visit | One maid for a small villa or a family flat | 138 |
| Five-hour visit | One maid, when ironing is added to the cleaning | 182 |
| Long eight-hour cleaning day | One maid for a new villa or after travel | 274 |
| Team of two for four hours | To get the villa finished by a set time | 296 |
| Extra hour | Visit extended by agreement | 52 |
| 12 visits a month | Three four-hour visits every week | 1,325 |
Your final bill depends on the villa’s size, the hours, the number of maids and the slot. If your visit is in the evening, on a Friday or on a public holiday, any extra charge is shown in the confirmation message. For anything the table does not show, such as two back-to-back visits to set up a new villa, ask about its price on WhatsApp.

Organising the pantry and kitchen is one of the jobs Al-Murjan families ask for after moving, and it fits into a normal visit. The maid empties and wipes the shelves, groups similar items, decants rice, pulses and sugar into clear containers if you have them, and puts items with the nearest expiry dates at the front so they get used first.

It is not just the pantry. Upper and lower kitchen cupboards, the spice drawer and the coffee and tea corner all need a sensible layout in a new home. Show the maid how you like things arranged the first time, and she will keep to it on every visit. If you want storage boxes or baskets, buy them before the visit; the maid does not shop on your behalf.
Staples shelf
Rice, flour and sugar at eye level for easy reach.
Tins shelf
Grouped by type, nearest expiry at the front.
Dry produce baskets
Onions, garlic and potatoes away from damp.
Hospitality corner
Coffee, cardamom, dates and serving pieces together.
Ironing abayas and children’s clothes in one visit
Yes, the maid irons abayas, thobes and school clothes, and can use an upright garment steamer if you have one, which is best for black abayas because it leaves no shine on the fabric. For family homes in Al-Murjan with more than one basket of ironing a week, add an hour or book a five-hour visit.

- Abayas are steamed and hung straight away so they do not crease.
- White thobes are pressed at the right heat for the fabric.
- Children’s clothes are folded and sorted by bedroom.
- School uniforms can be prepared for the whole week.
For quicker ironing
Leave a note in the basket listing items that need a low setting, or bag them separately, so the maid handles them gently without asking about each one.
Humidity and sea air: weekly care for Al-Murjan homes
Living near the sea makes humidity the biggest challenge in Al-Murjan homes, and the answer is regular cleaning rather than waiting for marks to appear. On every visit the maid wipes mirrors and sliding door glass from the inside, cleans bathroom grout before it darkens, dries basins and shower surfaces after cleaning, and clears fine sand blown into sliding door tracks.
We suggest airing the rooms while the maid is there: windows opened a little while bathrooms are cleaned, then closed before she leaves if the air conditioning is on. If you keep seeing damp patches on one wall, that is usually an insulation problem for a specialist, not something cleaning will fix.
Outside doors and glass
The maid cleans door and window glass from the inside and ground-level seating near the door; outside facades and high places are excluded for her safety.
What an Al-Murjan visit includes, and what it leaves out
All normal housework is included; full cooking, sole care of children or elderly relatives, hazardous work and moving heavy furniture are not. Here is a clear list to help you write your request:
What the maid does: floors swept and mopped, the kitchen cleaned and dishes done, bathrooms scrubbed, laundry washed, pressed and folded, windows wiped on the inside, majlis seating and rugs vacuumed, setting out hospitality and serving at gatherings then clearing up, Ramadan and Eid preparation, and cleaning before move-in or after move-out.
What she does not do: cook complete meals, stay alone with children or elderly relatives to care for them, clean facades or work at height, or move and assemble heavy furniture.
The maid brings basic cleaning tools, and we agree the cleaning products with you when you book: yours or hers. In new villas, tell us what floors and surfaces you have, because some marble and wood finishes need specific gentle products. Ideally one of the ladies of the house is in while she works.
Children’s rooms in Al-Murjan homes: toys, clothes and beds
Children’s rooms are the fastest to slide back into chaos, and the maid can reset them on every visit without taking on childcare. Toys go back into their boxes, books onto the shelf, bed linen is changed, floors under beds and desks are mopped, and clean clothes are folded into drawers by type. In a new home, agree a fixed system for each room on the first visit, a box for blocks, a basket for dolls, a shelf for storybooks, so children learn where things live and later visits go much faster. Since the maid is never left alone with children, the best times are school hours or when their mother is home.
One visit a week or three? Choosing a plan in Al-Murjan
The right plan depends on family size and villa size. A small family in a mid-size villa is usually fine with 4 visits a month, one four-hour visit a week from SAR 468. A family with school-age children and plenty of laundry suits 8 visits a month, from SAR 885. Large families in big villas choose 12 visits a month, three a week, from SAR 1,325.
Every plan is hourly visits; there is no accommodation for the maid and no residency on you. Requesting the same maid again is fine whenever her roster allows, which helps in a new home because she remembers where things go after setting them up with you the first time.
Weekend guests at Al-Murjan villas near the sea
With the Corniche and the northern beaches close by, Al-Murjan homes often host family at weekends, and many households book one visit before guests arrive and another after they leave. The first focuses on the entrance, majlis, guest bathroom and spare bedrooms, with fresh linen, clean towels and coffee and tea things ready. The second covers the kitchen, dishes, floors and used bedding. For longer stays, a four-hour visit midway keeps things under control. Demand rises on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, so book two days ahead.
Legal maids, and your responsibility as a householder
Householders are legally responsible for who works in their home, so we only send legally employed maids to Al-Murjan, with current iqamas, training and a modest work uniform. The Domestic Workers Regulation, published in Umm Al-Qura, forbids lending your housemaid out to another household; the sponsor can be fined no more than SAR 20,000 or barred from recruitment for a maximum of three years.
As for sheltering or employing a worker who breaks residency and labour rules, the General Directorate of Passports has said the penalty can reach six months in prison and a SAR 100,000 fine, repeated for each violator. Our maids are Kenyan, Ugandan and Bangladeshi, and who is available changes with the booking date.
Book an hourly maid in Al-Murjan in four messages
A few WhatsApp messages or one phone call is all it takes:
- 1First message: type of home (new villa, lived-in villa, flat) and the number of rooms and bathrooms.
- 2Second message: the main job: pre-move-in clean, ironing, pantry, or a weekly visit.
- 3Third message: day and slot, plus your map pin and entrance.
- 4Our confirmation: we send the time and price; the maid arrives on time and the clock starts as she comes in.
To change the time or the maid, message us on WhatsApp in good time before the visit. Moves into new homes peak at the end of summer and before Ramadan, so book early then.
Book your next Al-Murjan visit, or ask about the three-visits-a-week plan.
