For readers new to the term, a part-time or hourly maid in Saudi Arabia is a maid who visits for agreed hours rather than living in. With a weekly plan she simply comes back on the same day each week; she is our employee, not yours.

Why do As-Safa families prefer weekly visits?
Because most homes in As-Safa are large family flats with many people living in them, and housework piles up fast if it is left for two weeks. As-Safa is a busy residential district in east-central Jeddah, bordered by Al-Faisaliyah to the west, Al-Marwah to the north and Al-Aziziyah to the south, with As-Samer, Ar-Rabwah and Mushrifah nearby. Major roads run through or past it: Prince Mutaib Road, better known as Al-Arbaeen Street, Prince Majed Road and the Haramain Expressway.
The district has newer apartment blocks alongside older ones, and some villas, though far fewer than flats. Residents come from a range of backgrounds, and many are extended families or households with children at several school stages. That means a kitchen used every day, plenty of laundry, several bedrooms and wardrobes that fill up quickly. In a home like that a monthly visit is not enough, while a weekly visit keeps cleanliness at a steady level.
The second benefit of a plan is that the same maid keeps returning to your home when she is available, so she knows what each room needs and does not waste time asking where things go. Over time each visit gets quicker and more precise, and you have a clear schedule of what will be done each week.
Financially, each visit inside the weekly plan costs less than a single booking, and less again on the twice- and three-times-weekly plans. So if you need a maid every week anyway, subscribing makes more sense than booking each visit separately, and you also get a fixed slot without hunting for an available maid every time.
How many hours does an As-Safa flat need?
A three-bedroom flat in As-Safa needs 4 hours for its usual weekly visit, while a larger flat with five or more rooms needs 5 hours or two visits a week. The reason is that work in a big flat is not only about floor space; it also depends on how many bathrooms and rooms are in constant use and how much laundry there is.
On the first visit in particular, you may need an extra hour or two, because the maid is starting from an uneven level and has to tackle what has built up in the kitchen and bathrooms. After that the weekly visits get lighter and 4 hours is enough to keep the home in shape. If the family has guests every week, it is better to add an hour than to cut the bedroom tasks short.
If you live in one of As-Safa’s villas, choose between a long 8-hour working day (from SAR 274) and a two-maid team for half that time (from SAR 296), and you can make either one a fixed weekly visit.
Single visit, plan, or live-in maid?
A single visit is for temporary needs and a plan is for homes that need help all the time. A live-in maid is a completely different arrangement that we do not provide; we mention it here only for comparison, so you can decide what suits you:
| Option | Who it suits | What you commit to |
|---|---|---|
| Single hourly visit | Anyone needing help before an occasion or after a trip | Nothing ongoing; each visit is booked separately |
| Weekly visit plan | A large family in a flat where work builds up every week | A monthly subscription with a set number of visits |
| Live-in maid (comparison only) | Someone who wants a maid living with them | Recruitment, housing, food and full legal responsibilities |
Many As-Safa families were considering recruiting a live-in maid, then found that a twice- or three-times-weekly plan covered their needs without the costs of housing, food and paperwork, and with full privacy once the maid leaves.
A suggested weekly routine for an As-Safa family flat
The best way to use a plan is to spread the deeper jobs across the weeks of the month, alongside the regular tasks done every visit. Here is an example of a monthly split for a once-a-week plan:
Week one: the kitchen
Stove and the area around it, cupboard fronts and shelves, plus dishes and floors.
Week two: bedrooms
Fresh bed linen, wardrobes and dressing room sorted, ironed clothes folded and put away.
Week three: bathrooms and glass
Deep bathroom clean, with windows and mirrors wiped on the inside.
Week four: living room and majlis
Rugs vacuumed, seating arranged, and any laundry and ironing backlog cleared.
In every one of these visits the basics stay the same: washing up, a quick bathroom clean, mopping the floors and tidying the living room. With the twice-weekly plan you can give each week two deep tasks instead of one.
Cleaning the stove in an everyday cooking kitchen
The stove is what gets dirtiest in As-Safa kitchens, because most families cook on it two or three times a day. During the visit the maid lifts off the burner caps and soaks them in warm water, wipes the glass or metal top with a tool that will not scratch it, cleans the wall behind it and the surrounding marble, and puts the caps back clean and dry.

Once the stove is done, she works through the remaining kitchen jobs: dishes and pots, the sink, the cupboard doors and then the floor. If the extractor hood or the inside of the oven is heavily soiled, set aside a longer visit or put it in the kitchen week of your plan, because old grease needs time to soften and come off without damaging surfaces.

Sometimes the weekly visit is not enough, so you book an additional single visit without changing your plan. The most common cases in As-Safa are before Ramadan, when the kitchen and sitting rooms are prepared; before Eid, when guest rooms are made ready; after a big gathering; or when the family comes back from a long trip to find dust everywhere.
Here a two-maid team (SAR 296 upwards for 4 hours) finishes the home in half the time, or a 6-hour visit with one maid from SAR 204. The maid who visits you on your plan can come if she is free, since she already knows the home.
Bathrooms in flats that see heavy use
In a flat with six or more people, bathrooms get dirty quickly, so they are part of every plan visit, even if only a quick clean, and then get a deeper clean in their dedicated week. That covers basins, toilets, bathtubs, tiles, mirrors, taps and floors, with fresh towels hung up if you ask.
Organising dressing rooms and wardrobes
Yes, wardrobe organising is something As-Safa families ask for a lot, especially when the seasons change and when school starts again. The maid empties one shelf or drawer at a time, wipes it, then puts the clothes back neatly folded, separates each person’s clothes if you like, and arranges socks, handkerchiefs and small items in drawer organisers.

This task needs a few decisions from you, such as what gets hung, what gets folded and what moves to another cupboard, so it is best if you are there at the start to explain how you want it. From the second visit onwards the maid can carry on with the same system without being told.
Laundry and ironing for a family of several people
Laundry in As-Safa homes is a heavy weekly job: school uniforms, work clothes, bedding and towels. On each visit the maid can run the washing machine once or twice depending on time, hang the clothes, fold whatever is dry, then iron the pieces the family needs for the coming week and hang them up. To save time, sort whites and colours before the visit and put whatever needs ironing in a separate basket.
If there is a lot of ironing, such as work shirts for more than one person, give it a fixed part of every visit or add an extra hour for it. That way clothes do not pile up until the end of the month.
What not to ask an hourly maid to do
The visit is for housework such as cleaning, tidying, washing and ironing, so it does not include preparing full meals, and the maid is not left alone to care for children or elderly relatives. She also does not work on tall ladders or outside the windows, and she does not move heavy furniture.
Important: we would rather a lady of the household stayed in while the maid works. It makes it easier to agree on priorities, and both the family and the maid feel more comfortable.
Visit times and rush hour on the main roads
The morning shift suits many As-Safa homes best, though the evening shift is also available. Al-Arbaeen Street and Prince Majed Road get congested at peak hours, so some families choose mornings after the children leave for school, when traffic is calmer and the home is quiet.
You are not charged for travel: your hours begin when the maid steps into your flat, and we take care of dropping her off and collecting her. If you need to postpone a plan visit or change maids, message us on WhatsApp as early as possible so we can arrange an alternative.
For large apartment blocks: give us the block, floor and flat numbers, and since some As-Safa buildings have two entrances, say which one is closer to your flat. These details save the maid several minutes on arrival.
Booking an hourly maid in As-Safa
The whole booking is done by WhatsApp or phone, for one visit or a full plan alike:
Choose the booking type: one visit, or a plan with one, two or three visits a week.
Describe the flat: rooms, bathrooms, any dressing room or separate majlis, and your top-priority jobs.
Pick your fixed day: the weekly visit day and the morning or evening shift.
Confirm the details: we send you the price and schedule, and settle the cleaning-products question.
Welcome the maid: she arrives on time with the basic cleaning tools and starts on that week’s tasks.
Why we only send legally employed maids
Because a family that employs an irregular worker carries the responsibility before the authorities. The General Directorate of Passports has announced that employing, transporting or sheltering people who violate residency and labour rules, including absconding domestic workers, can cost the person responsible up to 6 months in prison and SAR 100,000 for each violator, with the expatriate violator deported.
Separately, letting a domestic worker serve a household other than her employer’s is a violation of the Domestic Workers Regulation, and it can earn the employer a SAR 20,000 ceiling fine or as long as 3 years without recruitment rights. In one of its campaigns, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced penalties on 23 employers for supplying their domestic workers to others and suspended the licences of 9 recruitment offices; violations can be reported through Musaned channels.
That is why every maid we send to As-Safa is on our payroll with a current iqama, has had housework training, dresses modestly for work, and you always know which company is responsible for her.
Nationalities and the same maid on every visit
Our team currently includes maids from Kenya, Uganda and other African countries, as well as from Bangladesh, and who is free shifts from slot to slot. Prefer one nationality? Note it in your message and we will see who is rostered for your day.
On a weekly plan, requesting one familiar maid for every visit is fine whenever her rota allows, which most families prefer because it builds familiarity with the home and how it is arranged. If she is not free one day, we send another maid and pass on your earlier notes.
Before each visit: leave a small note on the fridge door with this week’s tasks, keep valuables and documents somewhere locked, and put the laundry in the basket. That way the maid can start straight away without waiting.
Start your weekly plan in As-Safa, or book a single visit to try the service first.
