What can an hourly maid do for a home in Jabrah?

An hourly maid in Jabrah handles the recurring indoor housework: floors, kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, laundry and guest preparation. Jabrah is one of the old districts at the centre of Riyadh. Aqar lists it under “central Riyadh”, and it belongs to the Al Batha sub-municipality together with districts such as Al Marqab, Al Oud, Utayqah and Mikal. As in much of the old core, its listings are dominated by rented rooms and small units; one example is a room for rent on Dhat As Sawari Street.

Among those units, though, there are still older family houses and flats whose owners have lived there for years, and this page is written for them: a family in a roomy older house with a lot of floor to cover, hosting relatives on occasions, who want a few hours of help without the cost of a live-in maid. Our service is hourly only. No recruitment, no overnight stays; you book the hours you need and the visit ends when they do.

For newcomers to Riyadh: “hourly maid”, “part-time maid” and “maid by the hour” all describe the same thing here, a cleaner who comes at an agreed time, works through an agreed list of tasks, and is then driven back.

How do we make sure the booking is for Jabrah in Riyadh, not Taif?

With your location pin. The name Jabrah exists in more than one city, Taif among them, and since we only operate in Riyadh and Jeddah we sometimes hear from people who searched the name without the city. Write “Jabrah, Riyadh” in your message and share the house location on the map, and the driver will come straight to your door without repeated phone calls.

The pin matters in Jabrah for another reason too. The old Al Batha districts run into each other, the inner streets are narrow and some have no clear signs, and only residents know exactly where one district ends and the next begins. You may say you live in Jabrah when your house is on the edge of a neighbouring district. That is fine, since prices and service are the same across the centre, but the exact location saves visit time.

Parking

If it is hard to stop outside your house because the street is narrow, tell us the nearest spot where the driver can pull over, or stay near your phone shortly before the visit to guide him.

How does the maid mop floors in an older house?

The maid mops last, after everything above the floor is done: she dusts furniture and shelves first, then sweeps, then mops with water and a product suited to the surface, starting from the room furthest from the door so she never walks over what she has just cleaned. That simple order is what keeps a floor clean after she leaves, rather than merely wet.

In older houses the flooring changes from room to room. You may find old tiles in the corridors, marble in the entrance or living room, and fitted carpet in the majlis. Each has its method. Dirt collects in the joints of old tiles, so the corners need a hand brush. Marble reacts to acidic products, so it gets water and a mild cleaner. Carpet is vacuumed only; washing it with water is not part of the visit.

This table sums up how the maid handles the floor types common in older homes:

Floor typeHow it is cleanedWhat we watch for
Old tiles in corridors and roomsSwept, mopped, joints in corners brushed by handNo heavy water near cracked edges
Marble in the entrance or living roomMopped with water and a mild cleaner, then driedNo acidic products that dull the shine
Fitted carpetThe household vacuum cleanerNo washing with water or machines
Kitchen floorGrease spots lifted with a degreaser, then a normal mopDried well so it is not slippery
Bathroom floorScrubbed with bathroom cleaner, rinsed and moppedRoom kept ventilated during and after

If your floors are large, and the house is a single big storey as many older homes are, the floors alone can take an hour and a half or more. In that case book 5 hours instead of four if you want the kitchen and bathrooms fully done as well, or ask the maid to focus on floors and bathrooms only and leave tidying for another visit.

Can an hourly maid help get ready for family gatherings?

Yes. The maid gets the house ready before guests arrive, helps with serving while they are there and cleans up after they go, but she does not cook full meals. In the old districts families still gather at the eldest relative’s house, and a weekly get-together or an Eid gathering means a majlis that has to be ready and a mountain of serving ware to wash afterwards.

Before guests

Majlis tidied and seating shaken out, floors mopped, guest bathroom cleaned, cups and trays taken out and washed.

While they visit

Coffee and tea set out for serving if already prepared, sweets and fruit plated, cups changed.

After they leave

Dishes and serving ware washed, the spread cleared, majlis and kitchen floors mopped, seating put back.

Not part of it

No full cooking, no moving heavy furniture to enlarge the majlis, no hosing down the yard.

The best timing depends on the gathering. If it is in the evening, book a morning slot to prepare the house, or an evening slot so the maid is there while you serve and cleans up afterwards. For a big gathering, two maids for 4 hours are more useful than one maid for eight: the work is split and both finish before the guests arrive.

Get the serving ware down the day before

Take the serving pieces out of the high cupboards yourself before the visit. The maid does not climb tall ladders, and this way she can start washing and polishing straight away.

What is outside the scope of an hourly visit?

Full cooking, sole care of children or elderly relatives, hazardous work at height or on outside walls, moving heavy furniture, hosing down large yards, and pools and gardens are all outside the visit. We are clear about these limits so you do not book hours for work the maid cannot do, and so the visit stays safe for her and for your family.

What is included is a long list: sweeping and mopping, kitchen and dishes, bathrooms, laundry with ironing and folding, inside window glass, majlis and rugs with the vacuum, dusting, Ramadan and Eid preparation, and cleaning before moving in or after moving out. We prefer one of the ladies of the house to be home during the visit to guide the maid.

Are the maids legal, and what does the Domestic Workers Regulation forbid?

Our maids hold valid residence permits, and hourly visits run through a company, not through individuals. That difference carries legal weight. The Domestic Workers Regulation bars an employer from letting their domestic worker work for others or on her own account, Breaking that rule can cost the employer as much as SAR 20,000, or bar them from bringing in workers for as long as 3 years, and repeating it doubles the sanction. In other words, renting a neighbour’s or relative’s maid by the hour is a violation on their side.

The maids we send are trained and modestly dressed. They are African, for instance Kenyan or Ugandan, or Bangladeshi, and the line-up shifts with who is available at the moment you book.

Steps to book an hourly maid in Jabrah

  1. 1Send a WhatsApp message saying “Jabrah, Riyadh”, the type of home and how many rooms and bathrooms it has.
  2. 2Attach the pin so the driver reaches the door without getting lost in the inner streets.
  3. 3Mention any occasion with a rough guest count and arrival time, so we can suggest one maid or two.
  4. 4Pick the time morning or evening; we confirm any Friday or holiday charge.
  5. 5The visit starts the moment the maid arrives, and the driver takes her back when time is up.

The maid arrives carrying the basic cleaning tools; cleaning products are agreed with you when you book. To move the appointment or change the maid, WhatsApp us with enough notice before the visit. If you got on well with a maid, ask for her by name next time and we will send her if she is free.

How do you get the most out of every hour in an older house?

Clear priorities and a cleared path. A maid who spends a quarter of an hour looking for the vacuum or the bin bags is spending your time, and a floor mopped before the shelves are dusted will need mopping twice.

  • Write down three jobs you do not want the visit to end without.
  • Pick small items up off the floors before the visit if you can.
  • Leave the vacuum and household cleaning gear somewhere visible.
  • If an elderly relative or a sleeping child is at home, tell the maid which rooms to leave for later.

Never mix cleaning products

If the products are yours, do not pour bleach-based and acidic cleaners into the same container. Keep each in its original bottle and the maid will use them according to the surface.
