In Al Badiah, West Riyadh, Gulf Al-Arab Company provides legally employed maids by the hour who take care of the family’s washing, ironing and folding and change the bed linen, alongside cleaning and tidying the flat or villa. A four-hour visit with one maid is priced from SAR 138 and usually covers a week’s washing and ironing in a mid-size home; a house with many bedrooms needs five or six hours. New to hourly help? A part-time maid visits rather than lives in: she turns up for a set block of time, works through the agreed list, and our driver takes her home afterwards.
Does an hourly maid iron the family’s clothes in Al Badiah?
Yes. Ironing and folding are among the main reasons people book a maid in Al Badiah, and they can be the focus of the whole visit or just part of it. The ironing basket in a family home fills within a week: men’s thobes, school uniforms, work shirts, outfits for occasions and sheets. Ironing all of that in one sitting takes the lady of the house hours, while the maid gets through it during the visit and tidies the home at the same time: the washing machine runs while she cleans the bathrooms, then she returns to the ironing board.
What makes this visit satisfying is that you see the result straight away: an orderly wardrobe, clothes hung ready for the week, and beds with fresh linen. That is why many families prefer the ironing visit at the start of the week, before work and school begin.
Al Badiah in West Riyadh: location and homes
Al Badiah is a residential district in West Riyadh under the Ash Shumaisi sub-municipality. It carries the name of the historic Al Badiah Palace, and the Al Badiah Palace Mosque is another of its well-known landmarks. Please note it is a different district from Dhahrat Al Badiah, which belongs to the Al Uraija sub-municipality, and from Al Badiah in the Qassim region, so we ask for your location pin when you book to avoid any mix-up.
Streets in the district that appear in property listings include Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Baz Street, Ibrahim bin Aidan Street, Abdulwahid Al Marrakushi Street and Al Salmah Street. Homes are flats offered for rent and sale, and family villas. Families in the villas here are often large, with several bedrooms and a big weekly wash, which is why ironing and bed linen top their list of requests.
In the district’s family flats, space is tighter, so where the ironing and drying happen becomes a practical question: is there a corner for the washing machine, an indoor drying rack or a dryer, and where can the ironing board go without blocking the way? Tell us when you book and the maid will know from the start where to work, without losing visit time looking for a spot. If you have no ironing board, ironing can be done on a flat surface covered with a thick blanket, although a board is quicker and gives a better finish.

How does the maid iron and get the week’s clothes ready?
The maid first sorts the clothes by fabric and the right heat setting. She starts with fabrics that need a low temperature and raises the heat step by step, because an iron heats up faster than it cools down. In that order she never waits for the iron to cool, and no delicate piece gets too much heat.
Men’s thobes
Ironed collar and sleeves first, then front and back, and hung straight on a hanger so they do not crease again.
School uniforms
Ironed and set out for each child separately, with socks and handkerchiefs, ready for the school week.
Work shirts
Ironed and hung in order, with the top buttons done up so the collar keeps its shape.
Sheets and towels
Folded to one size so they fit the shelves, with pillowcases ironed if you ask.

How many pieces can she do? It depends on the items, but two hours of steady ironing usually clears a small family’s weekly basket, while a large family needs three hours or more for ironing alone. That is why, for big families in Al Badiah, we suggest making the ironing a separate visit from the general clean, or booking five hours.
Clothes that should not be ironed, and fabrics that need a warning first
The maid reads the care label on each piece before ironing, but a heads-up from you saves time and protects your best clothes. Please point out these items:
- Embroidered abayas or ones decorated with beads and stones: ironed from the reverse on low heat, or left alone if you prefer.
- Silk and chiffon: very low heat with a cloth between the iron and the fabric.
- Wool and velvet: steamed from a distance, without pressing the iron down.
- Anything labelled “dry clean only”: not washed at home; the maid sets it aside for you to take to the laundry.
- Printed or decorated clothes: ironed inside out.
Warning: Keep valuable or delicate pieces separate from the ironing basket, and tell us when you book if any need special handling.

Changing the bed linen: how many rooms can the maid do in one visit?
In a four-hour visit the maid can change the linen on three to four beds, wash and fold it, and tidy the rooms. It depends on the size of the beds and the type of bedding; a double set with a heavy duvet and decorative pillowcases takes longer than a single bed with a light sheet.
She strips the used linen and puts it straight into the washing machine, airs the mattress and vacuums it if you ask, makes the bed with the clean set pulled tight at the corners, and arranges the pillows. Once the wash is done she hangs the linen or puts it in the dryer, then folds it and puts it away in the wardrobe.
| Bedrooms | Linen only, with rooms tidied | Linen plus the week’s washing and ironing |
|---|---|---|
| Two | Two hours | Four hours |
| Three | Two to three hours | Four to five hours |
| Four or more | Three to four hours | Five to six hours, or two maids |

Tip: If each bed has two sets, leave the clean set on or beside the bed before the visit, so the maid can start straight away without searching the wardrobes.
How often should bed linen be changed?
The usual habit is to change bed linen once a week, and more often in summer, during illness or after a guest has stayed. In Riyadh’s dry, dusty climate, dust settles on beds even in closed rooms, so a small extra on every visit helps: shaking out the duvet, vacuuming the mattress edges, and wiping the bedside table and lamp.
Pillowcases need changing more often than the rest of the set, especially for anyone who uses hair or skin products. The maid can flip or rotate the mattress if you ask and it is light enough to move safely; heavy mattresses need two people from the household. We suggest washing heavy duvets and blankets once a season in a visit set aside for it, as they take a long time in the machine and to dry.
Before Eid and occasions: clothes ready and beds made for guests
In the days before Eid or a family occasion, the ironing multiplies: new Eid clothes that need pressing once they come out of their packaging, children’s outfits, abayas, and the guest-room linen if relatives are staying over. So we advise families in Al Badiah to book their ironing visit two or three days before Eid, because slots fill up in the last few days.
In that visit the maid can combine ironing with getting the guest rooms ready: making the beds with fresh linen, setting out towels and tidying the wardrobe, then finishing with the majlis and lounge. In a family villa the right visit for this is six hours, or two maids for four hours, one on the ironing and the other on the house.
From washing machine to wardrobe: how is the laundry cycle run during the visit?
The laundry runs in parallel with the rest of the work, so the visit hours are not lost waiting for the machine. At the start the maid sorts the wash into whites, colours and delicates, puts the first load on, then moves to the bathrooms or kitchen. When the cycle ends she hangs that load, starts the second, and goes back to the ironing.
- Sort the clothes by colour, fabric and washing instructions.
- Start the first load, then move on to another job in the house.
- Hang the first load or put it in the dryer, and start the second.
- Iron in batches according to the fabric’s heat setting.
- Fold the clothes and put them away in each person’s wardrobe, hanging what needs hanging.
On dusty days we do not recommend drying clothes in the courtyard or on the roof, as they come back dusty; a dryer or indoor rack is better. The maid uses the detergent and softener you have at home, or whatever we agree at booking.
Note that the maid does not sew on buttons or mend torn clothes, but she puts aside anything that needs repair and tells you about it, so it does not get put away in the wardrobe unfit to wear.
A monthly plan for a large family in Al Badiah
A large family usually needs two visits a week, which is the package starting from SAR 885 for eight visits a month, four hours each. Split like this, the ironing never piles up and the house never waits a full week to be cleaned:
| Day | First visit of the week | Second visit of the week |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | Washing, ironing and changing beds | Cleaning the house: kitchen, bathrooms and floors |
| Rotating extra | Sorting one wardrobe each week | Inside of the windows or the fridge, alternating |
| Result | The week’s clothes ready and fresh bed linen | A tidy home before the weekend and guests |
If your needs are lighter, the weekly package of four visits from SAR 468 may be enough, with ironing and bed linen on every visit and a deeper clean of one part of the house in rotation.
What is not part of the maid’s visit in Al Badiah?
Outside the visit: full meal cooking, solo care of children or elderly relatives, exterior walls, outer window faces and anything at height, shifting heavy furniture, hosing down large courtyards, or pools and gardens, and it does not include machine-washing carpets and sofas. The maid does not iron items labelled “dry clean only”, and she does not put large rugs in a household washing machine.
Besides laundry and ironing, it does include cleaning bedrooms, the kitchen and bathrooms, the inside of the windows, vacuuming majlis rooms and rugs, preparing hospitality and clearing up after, and Ramadan and Eid preparations. Basic equipment comes with her; which cleaning and laundry products to use is settled at booking.
The maids and the legal side
All maids sent to Al Badiah work legally on valid iqamas, have training in housework (laundry and ironing among it) and wear modest uniform. Our team includes Kenyan and Ugandan maids among other African nationalities, as well as Bangladeshi maids, and who is on the roster varies by booking date. Liked how one maid handled your ironing? Request her again and she will come whenever her diary allows.
Why so strict on this? Saudi domestic-worker rules bar a maid from taking work with any household other than her sponsor’s, and the sponsor who allows it risks a fine as high as SAR 20,000. On top of that, the Passports directorate can jail someone who hires or shelters residence or labour violators for as long as 6 months and fine them up to SAR 100,000.
